Aim of Enviro-Schools
Gore Main School recognises that our environment is a gift for which we have been given the responsibility of stewardship (Kaitiakitanga). We want our children to nurture and live in a healthy, sustainable environment which they will maintain with aroha and respect and pass on to future generations. We, as individuals, whānau and communities can all take effective action.
Throughout the Enviro-Schools programme run five Guiding Principles/Ngā Mātāpono: Empowered Students, Sustainable Communities, Learning for Sustainability, Māori Perspectives and Respect for Diversity of People and Culture. Elements of these underpin all Enviro-School learning so that students participate in a genuine way. Māori perspectives and other cultural traditions are honoured, and action-based learning becomes the basis for sustainable communities.
